Farleigh Hospice is appealing for residents to support it by making or updating their will next month.

The Chelmsford-based hospice is preparing to launch its annual Make a Will campaign - which runs from the 1 to the 30 September - for which local solicitors will offer their time to write or update a will in return for a minimum donation of £100 for a single will and £150 for a pair of mirror wills.

Debbie de Boltz, fundraising manager at Farleigh Hospice, said: "Life changing events can happen when you least expect them.

"Having a valid will means you are prepared for the unexpected. This takes the pressure off your loved ones at a very difficult time.

"Our campaign makes it possible for people to make their will in return for a donation to the hospice.

"This donation amount is less than the usual fee a solicitor would charge, so it's the best time to take care of this essential piece of life admin.

"This simple action will not only enable you to tick 'make a will' off of your to do list, it will also help us to continue to provide care for people affected by life-limiting illness and bereavement."

Among this year's participating solicitors is the Chelmsford branch of Tees, which has supported Farleigh's Make a Will campaign for 15 years.

Ian Johnston, senior associate at Tees, said: "We have supported Farleigh Hospice in various ways over the last 15 years, but primarily it has been through the Make a Will campaign.

He added: "Anything we can do to fundraise for Farleigh, we are happy to do as they provide such a vital service for local people."
