Maldon steampunk event made the most of one of the last days of summer

Local News by The Editor 7th Sep 2021

AMAZING vintage engines and fabulous steampunk outfits were the order of the day at Maldon's Museum of Power yesterday (Sunday, 20 September).

As the sun shone down on the show field of the popular attraction in Hatfield Road, Langford, engineers displayed a variety of machines and the nostalgic scent of a different age hung heavy on the air.

Robert Cole, who has been an engineering enthusiast since the age of 10, travelled to the show from Norfolk with his 1936 Petter engine.

Nearby, Tony O'Sullivan from South Woodham Ferrers showed his incredible beer pumping engine.

Steampunk devotees The League of Essextraordinary Gentlemen (also known as the Essex Steampunk Group) were also at hand with a display of weird and wonderful inventions and steampunk gear.

Steampunk culture draws its inspiration from Victorian science fiction writers such as Jules Verne and H G Wells, attempting to recreate the future as the Victorians imagined it to be.

The League of Essextraordinary Gentlemen has a Facebook page for those who wish to join or find out more here
