Maldon's Limebrook u3a January article: the 2021 calendar

The following is the January 2021 article from Maldon's Limebrook u3a.

Graham Churchill is the Interest Group Leader for Photography at Limebrook u3a. Here in his own words he tells us about a recent activity and the creation of this year's Calendar, showcasing a fantastic selection of photographs taken by members.

The creation of a Calendar is a project that the Limebrook u3a Photography Group has run over the last few years. The subject is decided early in the year and for 2021 it was "Water in Essex". All members of the group are invited to submit up to three photographs for consideration for inclusion in the next year's calendar. When all the submissions are gathered in late October, they are sent to an independent local photography club chairperson who selects the final 12. This year we had 51 entries, with 12 to be selected.

Once sorted into the appropriate months they are sent to an online printer for printing. The finished Calendar is made available to all members of the Limebrook u3a. The idea behind this is to encourage members of the group to use their skills with the camera to try and get one of their photographs included.

We have relaunched our Monthly Meetings. As we cannot meet at the WMCC, we are holding these using the Zoom Platform. The first two meetings in 2021

are on:

8th January: Andy Thomas - Unexplained Mysteries and Cover-ups

12 February: Dr James Taylor - Humorous British Postcards

If you would like to know more about our various Interest Groups or would like to attend our "Virtual Monthly Meeting", please visit our website for more details using the link here.

Our Interest Groups have been using creative ways of keeping the spirt of the u3a going throughout these demanding times, using the telephone, email, WhatsApp and Zoom. We have had new members joining throughout 2020, so if you are no longer in full time employment and want to expand your social life and take up new interests, why not make a New Year Resolution to learn more about the u3a.
