Prime Minister Boris Johnson has won this evening's vote of no confidence, by 211 votes to 148.

41.2% of Conservative MPs in the ballot voted against Boris Johnson, while 58.8% supported him. When Theresa May faced a confidence vote in 2018, she secured the support of 63% of her MPs, but resigned within six months.

Speaking this afternoon, Conservative Councillor for Tillingham, Richard Dewick, said he had 'full confidence' in the Prime Minister.

Councillor Dewick said: "Boris Johnson may have made some mistakes, but he's done what he said he would do. He got Brexit done, and he's managed to do one of the best jobs getting people vaccinated against COVID, probably in the whole world.

"He's admitted he's made mistakes. Let's get over it, move on and cope with the more important things we've got to deal with at the minute."

Maldon MP John Whittingdale, the former Media Minister, was unavailable for comment.
