Yesterday (August 29) residents in Burnham-on-Crouch celebrated Quay Day 2022, as part of the annual Burnham Week, joined by local station Chelmer Radio.

Competitors raced on the River Crouch, in one of the longest-standing sailing regattas in the UK.

Celebrations for this year's Burnham Week will conclude on Saturday (September 3).

Chelmer Radio DJ David Baker presented his show live outside Bistro on the Quay between 10am and 1pm.

David, who owns the radio station, told Nub News: "These are special days for the area, especially after the last few years.

"It was so good to see people out and about, enjoying themselves in the sunshine, and enjoying what we do as a radio station - totally focused on the community at large.

"We'd like to say a huge thank you to everyone who came down."

During the show, David highlighted activities taking place throughout the day, including live music from the Hoy Shanty Crew and local band The Remedy.

He also interviewed Epic Dance Academy's Carlie Boler about the dance troupe's success over the last 10 years, in between a selection of 'light and easy' records.

Organisers held a craft fair, while Emporium on the Quay showcased its range of locally made goods, including jewellery, keyrings, and paintings.

After the radio show, the entertainment kicked off with the Hoy Shanty Crew, whose variety of well-known sea shanties proved popular with the audience. So much so, that they were asked to perform again by members of the public shortly after finishing.

The Remedy, formed of Julian May, Angela Gardner, Beth Pratt, and Jon Greaves, later performed their new single The Marathon Song. Written from the perspective of a runner taking part in the London Marathon, the song describes their experience as they move past 'iconic' sights in the city.

Colin Davies and Paul Bleach, two members of the five-piece Shades of Simon, gave visitors 'a real treat', reliving the incredible sound of Simon and Garfunkel.

At 6pm, the Royal Corinthian Yacht Club held a prizegiving ceremony, marking the end of the day's sailing.

Quay Day proceedings concluded with a charity raffle, organised by Bistro on the Quay and The Anchor pub. Together they raised a 'brilliant' £1,000 for two charities, the RNLI and The OutHouse.
