Works to widen Maldon Road and to create a new staggered junction for the ongoing Burnham Waters development have been completed, Essex Highways has confirmed.

Overnight road closures have taken place since July 24 and temporary traffic lights were in operation. The closures were extended due to "poor wet weather", which prevented the new surface course material from being installed.

This afternoon (August 17), a spokesperson for Essex Highways said: "We are pleased to report that no overnight closure will be needed tonight on B1010/Maldon Road associated with the Burnham Waters retirement development. These works have now been completed.

"Thank you for your patience & cooperation throughout this time."

A new two-metre wide footway link has been created to provide pedestrian access on the southern side of Maldon Road from the entrance to Public Footpath Route 1 to the local curry house, Dhan Shiri. The existing junction for Ferry Road has also been slightly widened to manage traffic generated from the new development.

Works also included introducing a new 40mph speed limit, along with new and realigned drainage facilities and new street lighting.
