A proposal to turn a Maldon High Street sandwich shop into a bar has been approved by council planning.

The shop sits alongside the British Heart Foundation charity shop and Wenlocks retailer, and was last operating as a Subway takeaway in October 2024.

The plan outlines removing the Subway signage and replacing it with a simplistic navy and gold shopfront with the 'Craft Beer Maldon' logo.

Craft Beer Maldon was launched in September last year by Director Colin Stroud.

The company hopes to sell draft and bottled beers as well as bar snacks at the 114 sq/m High Street premises.

Proposals for the internal layout include a downstairs bar area, as well as a beer cellar, kegs, beer taps, a kitchen and further customer seating on the first floor.

While exact opening hours are yet to be confirmed, the bar has suggested opening until midnight on Friday & Saturday, and until 11pm on remaining evenings.
