Council in the running for top award over clean air project

MALDON District Council has been shortlisted for the New Initiative Award (Air) at the upcoming Environmental Monitoring Awards 2025.
The Council will discover whether its submission, 'Voluntary Clean Air Route – Market Hill Maldon', has won the award at a ceremony taking place on 17 September, where leading organisations from across the country will be recognised for their contributions to environmental improvement and air quality innovation.
The Market Hill Clean Air Route is a voluntary initiative designed to reduce vehicle emissions in one of Maldon's most historic and sensitive areas. By encouraging drivers to use alternative routes and promoting active travel options, the scheme aims to improve air quality, protect heritage assets, and enhance the wellbeing of residents and visitors alike.
Speaking about the shortlisting, Cllr Richard Siddall, Leader of Maldon District Council, said: "We're absolutely delighted to be shortlisted for this award.
"The Market Hill Clean Air Route is a bold and proactive step towards cleaner air and a healthier environment for everyone in Maldon. It shows what can be achieved when we work together with our community to tackle environmental challenges head-on."
The Council's nomination reflects its ongoing commitment to sustainability, innovation, and community-led solutions. Being shortlisted for the Environmental Monitoring Awards is a testament to the hard work and vision of the officers, councillors, and residents who have supported the initiative.
