A former Plume Academy student has returned from an 'unbelievable' experience at the Maccabiah Games in Israel, the world's third largest sporting event.

Dalia Baker, aged 17, represented Team GB's under-18s girls' football team at this year's Maccabiah Games.

She said: "To be selected to play for Team GB was something that I'll never forget.

"To step up to a level like this gives me a real appetite to go further now.

"With the way the women's game is going now, opportunities will certainly present themselves, I'm sure."

Dalia is a big fan of Queens Park Rangers FC. At last weekend's home game, she met The Lionesses' Chloe Kelly, who scored the winning goal for England during extra-time in the Euro 2022 final against Germany, on July 31.

Dalia and her team had their own significant wins against Argentina, Australia, and Mexico en route to a bronze medal play-off, which they lost to Canada.

The Maccabiah Games, known as "the Jewish Olympics", is the world's third largest sporting event, behind the Olympics and the Commonwealth Games.

David Baker, Dalia's father, runs Chelmer Radio, which has recently been announced as the official radio station for Maldon & Tiptree Football Club.

Yesterday, he told Nub News: "I'm hoping that, on the back of the Lionesses, Maldon & Tiptree Football Club can have a women's team in the future."
