Essex NHS Care System asks for public support among “significant pressure”
Mid and South Essex NHS Intergrated Care System has called on public support as it battles "extreme demand" in its hospitals, GP practices, and community care services.
The ICS has blamed challenges like increased COVID-19 and seasonal flu cases, higher-than-usual emergency department visits and hospital admissions, as-well-as a higher demand for ambulance call-outs.
Calling on the public, the health service has asked for patients to "use services wisely."
In a letter to participants on its Virtual Views platform, a spokesperson for the NHS Mid and South Essex Intergrated Care Board Project Team said: "We want to assure our community that the NHS is doing everything possible to manage these challenges and continue delivering the care you need…
"Together, we can ensure that our health and care services remain resilient and able to help those most in need during this challenging time."
The care system has given examples of support, including speaking to Pharmacists for advice on minor illnesses or symptoms, calling 111 rather than 999 if not in a life-threatening emergency, and practicing good hygiene.
Meanwhile, it says they are doing all the can to reduce demand through prioritising patients, increasing beds and collaborating with local councils and health providers.
