Last Week, Essex Police's Roads Policing Unit officers worked with partners to carry out Vision Zero enforcement in Maldon to tackle drivers disregarding the law.

The enforcement comes as part of the Safer Essex Roads Partnership, with the goal to make Essex's roads safer for everyone and reduce fatalities.

Enforcement activities include proactive patrols and speed checks, as well as cracking down on offences like not wearing seatbelts.

Police hope such activities will help contribute to the joint ambition, Vision Zero, to have zero road deaths in Essex by 2040 or sooner.

A day of action was held on Thursday, September 19 to highlight road safety issues and target motorists breaking road laws.

In total, 58 traffic offence reports were issued that day, and a vehicle seized for no insurance.

The biggest group of offenders involved 31 people not wearing seat belts.

The second highest number of drivers reported were those using a mobile phone whilst driving, with 21 drivers stopped.

One person was captured speeding and two drivers weren't driving in accordance with a driving licence.

During Vision Zero enforcement days, drivers are spoken to about the negative impact these speeding has on the performance of the driver, the condition and roadworthiness of vehicles are checked, highlighting the importance of road safety for all.
