Maldon District Council has announced completion of a major upgrade to the play area at West Maldon Community Centre.

The newly transformed space, now named Flo's Place Play Area, was officially opened on Wednesday 29 October in a ceremony attended by members of the Shaughnessy family, local councillors, and senior officers from the Council.

The play area has been named in memory of District Councillor Flo Shaughnessy, who sadly passed away earlier this year. Flo was a dedicated representative for the West Maldon area and a passionate about her role and a huge advocate for community wellbeing. She was a dedicated representative for both the District and Town councils and made a difference in her role.

Her legacy and memory now lives on in this vibrant new space for families to enjoy, which she was enthusiastic about its delivery.

The project was delivered in partnership with Kompan UK Ltd, who have previously worked with the Council on successful play area developments at Promenade Park and Riverside Park.

"It's safe, inclusive, and full of fun – exactly what Flo would have wanted. We're proud to have worked with Kompan UK to deliver this project and even prouder to honour Flo's memory in such a meaningful way."
