PLANS have been revealed for 120 homes in a Mid Essex Essex village, which is "already struggling with sewage and flooding issues."

Hallam Land Management Limited, Samuel George Carr, Henry Edward Carr and Philippa Ann Howie are proposing the development near Maldon Road and The Street, Latchingdon.

The plans also include an expansion for Christchurch Church of England Primary School, which is next to the proposed development site.

The plans include a mix of house types from one to five bedroom homes, 40 per cent affordable housing, a children's play area, a potential new school entrance and drop-off and pick-up area with pedestrian and cycling links to Christchurch Church of England Primary School and a new pedestrian and cycle connection from the site to Steeple Road. 

The site of the proposed development is next to a development of 160 homes, with space for offices and a children's nursery, off Burnham Road, Latchingdon.

Residents in the area say that the village is "already struggling with sewage and flooding issues" and have expressed opposition to further development.

The plans for 120 homes state: "Our vision is to create an exemplary, sustainable, new community, as an extension to the village of Latchingdon that demonstrates how a high quality design approach can deliver social infrastructure, and community benefits, promote health and wellbeing for the existing and new residents and enhance the character and function of the environment, whilst contributing to the local housing needs.

"This ambition is realised through the following emerging three themes that will help shape the concept for the site and define the key design principles."
