A new consultation on proposed changes to Chelmsford Park and Ride has launched.

The consultation shares proposals for timetables and services at Sandon and Chelmer Valley services. A new ticket for students is also being proposed.

Key proposals include:

  • The introduction of a £2 student ticket. This fair would be between the £1 child fare and £3 adult day ticket.
  • Changes to the timetable of bus services serving the Chelmer Valley site. Following recent reviews of usage and low passenger numbers, the council is proposing stopping later evening journeys and the entire Saturday service for the Chelmer Valley service.
  • Reducing on-site customer service support at both the Sandon and Chelmer valley sites so that in-person help is available at peak times only.

Councillor Tom Cunningham, Cabinet Member for Highways, Infrastructure and Sustainable Travel said: "To make sure that our park and ride services are fit for the future and meet the needs of our residents, we constantly review how and when they are being used.

"Reviewing passenger numbers is also key in helping us plan ahead and shape the service.

"No decisions have been made yet and we are keen to hear residents views on what we are proposing. We want Park and Ride users to help us shape our service so it works for them and us.

"If you use the park and ride in Chelmsford, please do take the time to look and the consultation and share your views."

The consultation runs between 31 March to 30 April 2025. Residents can take part online.
