Temporary traffic lights have been installed in The Street, Heybridge, this afternoon (July 6) while workers repair a damaged water main and section of road surface.

The lights are set to remain in place for the next couple of days, while Essex & Suffolk Water and another contractor complete repairs.

Traffic throughout Heybridge and the local area continues to be disrupted, with queues reaching B1018/The Causeway in Maldon during busy periods.

This morning, homes and businesses in Heybridge were left without water, forcing Heybridge Primary School to move teaching online.

The cause has since been confirmed as a split in a two-metre section of the water pipe, likely caused by age. Workers replaced the section and residents have had their water supply restored.

A representative for Essex & Suffolk Water told Nub News The Street will be "a priority for reinstatement".

Once the hole in the road is filled, a different company will remove damaged sections of the road and resurface it.
