How to get in touch with your local health services over the Easter weekend

By Ben Shahrabi 13th Apr 2022

With just a few days to go before Easter, we've got all the information you require if you need to see a GP over the Bank Holiday weekend.

GP appointments will be available through the NHS' extended access scheme over the weekend. You can book an appointment by phoning your GP practice, or via a direct patient line which will be available on 01245 398055 to book an appointment during the Bank Holiday weekend.

Appointments are available to book at the Blackwater Medical Centre, which is open from 8am until 2pm on Saturday 16 April, but will be closed for the rest of Easter.

If you don't need to see a GP, you can always visit a local pharmacy instead:

  • The Tesco In-store Pharmacy at Fullbridge, Maldon, will be open from 9am until 1pm on Good Friday, and 9am until 1pm on Easter Monday.
  • Blackwater Pharma on Princes Road, Maldon, will be open from 12pm until 2pm on Easter Sunday.
  • Burnham Pharmacy on Foundry Lane, Burnham-on-Crouch, will also be open on Easter Sunday, from 11am until 2pm.

Your local pharmacy can help with advice on medication, or with a wide range of minor illnesses and ailments. While many pharmacies will be closed over the bank holiday weekend, visit www.nhs.uk to find one that is open near you.

If you have an urgent medical problem which isn't life threatening or an emergency, or you're not sure what to do, you can call NHS 111. A team of trained advisors will ask questions to assess your symptoms and then give you the healthcare advice you need or direct you to the local service that is best for you and your needs and is available 24 hours a day seven days a week. Always dial 999 in a medical emergency.

Feeling low at this time of year is common. If you feel you need help, then please get in touch with someone. There are a number of support services including 24-hour support.

If you are feeling tense or anxious and need to talk to someone, mental health support is now available for over 18s 24/7 via the NHS 111 helpline.

  • Samaritans: Call 116 123 free 24/7.

Under 18s can call NELFT out of hours on 0800 953 0222.

If you think you need urgent dental treatment, call your regular dentist. If you cannot contact reach your dentist or you do not have one, use the NHS 111 online service.
