Thousands of residents and visitors turned out to enjoy the first Maldon Carnival procession for three years on Saturday 6 August.

In a statement, the organisers of this year's Maldon Carnival said: "It was such a great day - thank you so much to everyone involved and those of you who came to see us."

Take a look at this delightful selection of photos taken throughout yesterday's festivities, and see if you can spot yourselves (or your little ones) among the crowds!

Watership Downs Nursery won the award for 'Most Creative Float', due in part to their handmade hats and excellent decorations. (Photo: Ben Shahrabi)

Maldon Rugby Club donned horns and plastic swords, harking back to Maldon's viking history. A particular highlight was the handmade shields, which helped to earn them an award for 'Second Most Creative Float'. (Photo: Ben Shahrabi)

The Big Sing Community Choir serenaded carnival-goers with renditions of popular hits including The Real Thing's 'You to Me Are Everything'. For their dedication to colour co-ordination, along with fantastic engagement from choir members, earned them an award for 'Third Most Creative Float'. (Photo: Ben Shahrabi)

The National Pool Company went for a beach theme - featuring dozens of inflatables and live music on-board. (Photo: Ben Shahrabi)

A team from Tesco Maldon (led by Community Champion Rhian Oakely) handed out bananas and other refreshments to the crowds, in vibrantly-decorated Tesco trollies and donning royal masks. (Photo: Ben Shahrabi)

Tesco's Ellie Culling had a very responsible job, chauffering the Queen herself along the procession route. (Photo: Ben Shahrabi)

Up In Lights Dance Academy impressed with their hand-made cutouts, featuring the Queen's Guard, a unicorn and a carriage. (Photo: Ben Shahrabi)
