Limebrook u3a: December newsletter

7th Dec 2020 | Local News

Here Brian Harris shares the latest news and updates from Maldon's Limebrook u3a

The Limebrook u3a Interest Groups have continued to be active throughout the month and have found innovative ways of being in touch.

The Photography Group organised by Graham Churchill ran a competition this month with the theme of "wet" or "leaves". First place went to Phil Edgelton for his excellent composition that attracted the most votes from the members. Second place went to Paul Madge for his view of the autumn leaves with Peter Thorpe coming third with his closeup of a holly leaf complete with water droplets. Zoom has made all this possible and means anyone interested in Photography can be part of the virtual monthly meetings.

The History Group had talks on "The Women's Land Army" and another on "Barking Abbey". These meetings take place on Zoom and as there is no limitations on the number of people who can attend, we are happy for new members to join Limebrook u3a who wish to be part of this thriving Group. Please contact Mike Stringer via our website if you are interested.

The Book Club Group run by Chris Dove managed a couple of meetings that were socially distanced before the second lockdown. Undaunted by not being able to meet, they have been sharing book reviews. Chris recommended Pans Echo by Sebastian Faulks as a good read. They will be keeping in touch and reviewing books until they can see each other again.

Jo Madge and the Walking Group have been sharing walks on WhatsApp and by email. In the Limebrook u3a newsletter she details a three-mile walk around Maldon. We hope that the circumstances change in order that they can meet again and enjoy the fresh air and companionship that is so much part of walking together.

Our next Monthly Meetings will be hosted by Paul Madge on Friday, 11 December when we shall run our Annual Quiz virtually by Zoom.
