'Lucky escape' for passengers as Maldon firefighters tackle Bicknacre car blaze
The occupants of a car which caught fire "had a lucky escape", as Maldon firefighters tackled the blaze in Hyde Lane, Bicknacre, last night (July 9).
Both Maldon fire engines were called to the scene at 11.30pm. Thankfully, there were no serious injuries.
Everyone was out of the vehicle when crews arrived, with a spokesperson describing it as "a lucky escape".
The vehicle had reportedly "left the road" and was found on its side. When the emergency services arrived, they found the car engulfed in flames. Wearing breathing apparatus, firefighters extinguished the blaze and stabilised the car.
Essex County Fire & Rescue Service (ECFRS) works closely with Essex Police through its Safer Essex Roads Partnership to help improve road safety. More information can be found on the ECFRS website.
A spokesperson for Essex Police declined to comment, adding: "We'll only provided a statement if the fire service say it was started deliberately."
