Motorists throughout the Maldon District and the county have been faced with severe delays today (October 10), caused by road closures on the A12.

Police officers were called shortly after 11.15am to concerns for a man on a bridge of the road near Junction 26 at Stanway, Colchester.

This evening, Essex Police announced it had "resolved the situation" which led to the closure.

An Essex Police spokesperson said: "A man has now been brought to safety and the roads are re-opening. Thank you for your patience and understanding while we worked to resolve this incident safely."

All closures have been lifted between Junction 25 to 28 northbound and Junction 28 to 26 southbound, near Colchester.

However, approximately four miles of congestion remains in place, National Highways has warned.
