Maldon Rugby Club's Under-13s won their first official competitive match in the Essex Waterfall Cup Competition away against the Old Brentwood U13s, last Sunday (October 8)
In what was a highly competitive fixture, the Maldon boys came out on top, winning the game with 70 points to 40 points.
The late summer sunshine basked down, making the conditions extremely tough. However, both teams of boys worked hard and put on a fantastic show for those watching.
Maldon threatened to run away with the game in the first half, but much to Old Brentwood's credit, they hung in and kept the Maldon lads honest throughout.
Maldon took a strong full squad of 20, and were kind enough to loan a couple of their lads to support Brentwood as they had a few players missing.
What was fantastic to see was two examples of wonderful sportsmanship. In one instance, the referee had awarded a try to Old Brentwood, only for the player to admit he had knocked on. Five minutes later, Maldon looked to have scored, the ref was unsighted, and the Maldon player admitted he had not grounded the ball.
