Maldon District Councillors have voted unanimously to increase council tax this year.

Councillors voted on the recommendation of the Interim Chief Financial Officer at a full council meeting yesterday evening, February 13.

As a result the District Council's portion of Council Tax will increase by 2.99% this year, resulting in a bill of £232.01 for Band D properties in the Maldon District.

This change is expected to increase the Maldon District Council Tax income by £180,996, to £6,230,487 annually.

The increase reflects the threshold set by the government.

Council tax bills reflecting the new rates will typically be sent out in March 2025, with payments beginning from April 2025.

The impact of this increase on each of the council tax bands is as follows:

Band A: £4.49

Band B: £5.24

Band C: £5.99

Band D: £6.74

Band E: £8.24

Band F: £9.74

Band G: £11.23

Band H: £13.48

It's important to note that this increase pertains to the district council's portion of the council tax.

Other precepting authorities, such as Essex County Council, the Essex Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner, and local parish councils, also set their own council tax rates, which will be added to the overall bill.
