Maldon District: Southminster boxing champ Jack to compete for Commonwealth title
A Southminster boxer, who trains in Maldon, is preparing to take on a currently unbeaten opponent for the Commonwealth Super Welterweight Silver Title in December.
Jack Martin, 29, trains at Maldon Boxing Academy with trainer Leon Jared and his dad, Lee Martin.
On December 9, he will take on CJ Challenger, a boxer from Leicester who has won all 14 of his professional fights. The bout will take place at The Brentwood Centre.
Jack emerged victorious when he took on the Super Welterweight Southern Area title for the second time, in March. With his ongoing success, Jack is confident he can take whatever his rival throws at him in December.
He told Nub News: "I know how hard I train, and I leave no stone unturned.
"CJ is 14-0 for a reason but that doesn't put any fear into me.
"I last boxed on June 17 at the same venue, where I defended my Southern Area Title with an eighth-round technical knockout (TKO) against Ryan Maycock, making me 8-1 as a professional so far."
Alias 'Ginger', Jack had 45 amateur fights before turning pro in 2019. Since then, he has had nine professional fights, losing one. This will be his fourth title fight so far, as he has exclusively opted for "big fights" since turning pro.
Entry to the fight costs £100 for table tickets and £60 for standard tickets. Anyone wishing to attend should contact Jack on 07468 567 270, or get in touch via Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram.
Jack is sponsored by a whole host of local businesses: Mecoy Ltd, Advanced Tans, Fisk Group, BSP Heating and Plumbing, RSJ Scaffolding, CJG Developments Ltd, Paul Dawson and Co Accountants, MP Executive Travel, SJ Recovery, Perry Road Autos, Tothill Residential Surveys and Bridge Drywall. He has thanked his sponsors and supporters "for their continued support".
