Maldon Drama Group is celebrating after the opening night of its latest production, 'Steaming', proved to be "a big hit" last night (April 20).

Award-winning cast member Carey Brown told Nub News: "The audience response was fantastic, with laughter and gasps aplenty.

"Heather Sims, as the feisty Josie, really held the audience in the palm of her hand as they followed her tales of her tempestuous love life and her dreams of a better future. Old school friends Jane and Nancy (Viki Hayman & Ghislaine Davis) gave a great insight into how many women view their dependency on a relationship, while Mother Meadow (Steph Ireland) tried, and largely failed, to keep her daughter Dawn (Karen Smith) in check."

'Steaming' is set in the Turkish Room of some run-down public baths in the East End of London. It follows the story of five very different women who meet regularly to share their fears, dreams and hopes for the future, in a safe space.

When the baths are threatened with closure, the women, along with stalwart Violet who manages the ladies' sessions, must decide what to do. Will they give up their safe haven without a fight? No chance.

More than 200 tickets have been sold but there are still seats available on the door.
