Maldon Film Club will open its doors for its 19th season on Tuesday 12 September 2023, offering members exclusive discounts at Maldon Books.

Ahead of the new season, Maldon Film Club has announced that when members purchase books related to five of this season's films at Maldon Books, they will receive a discount of 12.5 per cent.

Members must visit Maldon Books in person and show their current membership card. The offer applies to the following films and books:

  1. Mrs Harris Goes to Paris (Book: Mrs Arris goes to Paris – Paul Gallico)
  2. A Man Called Otto (Book: A Man Called Ove – Frederik Backman)
  3. Where the Crawdads Sing (Delia Owens)
  4. Women Talking (Miriam Toews)
  5. Living Death of Ivan Illich (Tolstoy)

The season starts with the screening of the recently released British film Mrs Harris Goes to Paris, followed by the multi award-winning Everything Everywhere All at Once. The 2023/24 season continues until 22 May 2024, with films being shown fortnightly on Tuesdays in 2023 and Wednesdays in 2024.

As always, the programme will cover a wide variety of themes with films from different regions of the world. Many of the 19 films to be screened have either won or received nominations for an Academy Award (Oscar).

The Club, which meets at Maldon Town Hall, works on a membership basis. It is run by a committee that selects and screens an annual programme of films from the best of recent English and foreign language releases, plus one "classic".

Annual subscriptions cost £30, providing members to free admission to the season's 19 films. There are also a limited number of places for junior members aged 16 to 18 in full time education and training at the reduced cost of £20. Members are asked to give their reaction to the films shown and help the committee compile the programme for the following season.

Membership is open to all, and new members will be made welcome. Members' guests pay £4 per film.

Maldon Film Club's programme for the 19th season was published in July.

For further details and an application form, visit the Maldon Film Club website, the Visitor Information Centre at The Maeldune Centre (open from Tuesday to Saturday, 11am until 4pm) or phone 01621 869340. Alternatively, prospective members are invited to meet the committee on Tuesday 12 September, where an annual subscription can be purchased on the night.
