Maldon Film Club gives you the run-down of the movies to watch during the rest of its season.

Maldon Film Club's season continued in March with the screening of Parasite, which received 4 Oscars, the BAFTA-nominated Sorry We Missed You directed by Ken Loach, and Sweet Country – set in 1929 in the sparsely populated outback of the Northern Territory in Australia, and is based on true events.

The Club meets at Maldon Town Hall. Doors open at approximately 7.30pm and films begin at 8pm prompt. The programme for 2021/22, which covers a wide variety of themes with films from different regions of the world, continues until 25 May 2022 and our films will be shown fortnightly on Wednesdays until the end of the season.

The next two films to be shown are Knives Out, which received 1 Oscar nomination and A Taste of Honey which was the winner of 1 Golden Globe award and is this season's classic.

Knives Out, to be screened on Wednesday 13 April, tells what happens when renowned crime novelist Harlan Thrombey (Christopher Plummer) is found dead at his estate just after his 85th birthday and the inquisitive and debonair Detective Benoit Blanc (Daniel Craig) is mysteriously enlisted to investigate. From Harlan's dysfunctional family to his devoted staff, Blanc sifts through a web of red herrings and self-serving lies to uncover the truth behind Harlan's untimely death.

Later in April on Wednesday 27, the next film will be A Taste of Honey, the prize winning comedy-drama of a young girl's passionate love for life. Jo, played by Rita Tushingham, is working class, in her teens and living with her drunk and libidinous mother in northern England. When mum marries impulsively, Jo is out on the streets; she and Geoffrey, a gay co-worker who's adrift himself, find a room together. Then Jo finds herself pregnant after a one-night stand with Jimmy, a black sailor.

Geoffrey takes over the preparations for the baby's birth, and becomes, in effect, the child's father. The three of them seem to have things sorted out when Jo's mother reappears on the scene, assertive and domineering as ever. Which "family" will emerge?

Details of the remaining films to be screened this season are listed below:

* 11 May: Pain and Glory (2 Oscar nominations)

* 25 May: Yesterday (Winner, Montclair Film Festival, USA)
