Maldon resident and firefighter wins Employee of the Year award at Essex County Fire and Rescue ceremony
The firefighting hero was commended along with her colleagues at the ceremony, which was held at Hylands House, Chelmsford, last Wednesday.
Lyndsey Gymer, 39, began her firefighting career as an on-call firefighter in Maldon in 2019, later going on to work at Basildon Fire Station.
Lyndsey told Nub News last year that: "Before I joined Essex County Fire and Rescue Service (ECFRS) as an on-call firefighter, I was a full-time gym manager and busy mum to two little boys,"
"As much as I loved my career, I felt that there was something missing, and I was looking for an opportunity to do something that was fulfilling and rewarding."
In her short career, Lyndsey has been very successful and has made a significant difference in her community. Taking part in myth-busting videos, full case studies and Q&A sessions, Lyndsey is passionate about people understanding the role of a modern-day firefighter. She also played a key role in the Fire Service's firefighter recruitment campaign.
Lyndsey is particularly passionate about encouraging other women to consider firefighting as a career.
Last month, Lyndsey became an ECFRS representative for the Networking Group – Women in the Fire Service UK (WFS). At the time, she said it was her chance to encourage others in the fire service and offer her life experiences, be a role model, and offer support and advice to help others.
Essex County Fire and Rescue Service says it proudly recognises the achievements of its team members, and there are many different types of career opportunities on offer. If you wish to get involved, you can find out more at join.essex-fire.gov.uk
