Maldon Fire Station issues tumble dryer warning as two fire engines sent to tackle kitchen fire
Maldon Fire Station has urged tumble dryer owners to be cautious, following a kitchen fire on Wednesday (June 21).
Two fire engines were called to the scene of a "well-developed" kitchen fire in Cross Road, Maldon, caused by a tumble dryer.
Crews worked hard to contain the fire and prevent additional spread. The fire was fully extinguished by 5.57pm.
Although the kitchen was badly damaged, internal doors were closed so there was limited smoke damage to the rest of the house.
The exact cause of the fire could not be determined. However, a Fire Station spokesperson offered advice to owners of the appliances to help reduce the risk of fire:
- Always follow the manufacturer's instructions
- Don't use tumble dryers at night or while unattended
- Clean the filters after each use to ensure they do not become blocked with fluff
- Items should be removed from the dryer immediately after the cycle and shaken loose to assist cooling
- Ensure that the appliance has its own plug socket and do not overload extension leads
