A keen motorcyclist on a 14,000-mile ride from Maldon has reached Tajikistan - halfway through the most difficult journey he has ever undertaken.

Stuart Ringer started his journey along the Silk Road in April. He is raising money for mental health charities in memory of his friend, Gosia, who lost her struggle in 2019.

Now over 7,000 miles into his trip, Stuart has raised £3,000 for The Forward Trust and Movember.

He arrived in Tajikistan last week and rode to the Pamir Highway, one of the world's great road trips.

"The road is remote and hard going as it is mainly dirt," Stuart says.

"For much of it, you ride though the Wahan Valley, with Afghanistan on the other bank of the river, sometimes just 50 feet away."

Last Sunday, Stuart summited at the Kargush Pass at 4,343 metres and entered the Luna landscape of the Eastern Pamir range.

He told Nub News: "This is without doubt the hardest motorcycle ride I have ever undertaken."

From Tajikistan, Stuart will ride to Kyrgyzstan, where he will stay for three weeks. Then, he will begin the long journey home.
