A Maldon man on a 14,000-mile motorcycle journey has arrived in Turkey, raising £1,900 for mental health charities so far

Stuart Ringer set off on his journey from Maldon on April 2. On arriving in Turkey, Stuart says he has faced "inclement weather", but plans to continue.

He is taking on the challenge in memory of his friend, Gosia, who suffered from mental health issues. Sadly, she lost her struggle in 2019, aged 41.

He is currently taking a break in the old Roman town of Iznik, which is on Iznik Golu lake and surrounded by the remnants of the old walls.

This morning (April 4) Stuart told Nub News: "The fundraising has gone okay and I'm at around £1,900 so far.

"One disappointment is that the big motorcycle race that I hoped to attend and gain some traction for doing so, the Kazakhstan MotoGP, has been cancelled due to issues with the track."

Stuart has chosen to support The Forward Trust, which merged with Action on Addiction in 2021. It helps people through the process of detox and rehabilitation, as there is no publicly funded facility in the country at present.

He will also support Movember, which he says does "superb work raising the profile of men's health - both physical and mental".

Those who would like to donate to Stuart's fundraising appeal can do so via his JustGiving page or his Movember page.
