The Maldon Masonic Hall opened to the public for a Macmillan Coffee Morning last Sunday (October 1), raising a total of £700 for charity.

Visitors arrived throughout the day to enjoy a cup of coffee, some delicious cakes, and to chat - all to support a worthy cause.

The Coffee Morning was organised by Tina Bracey, cleaner at the Masonic Hall, on behalf of the Maldon Masonic Hall Association. In addition to the £350 raised, a cheque for a further £350 was presented to Tina by Ray Quiddington and Colin Ager from the Lodge of St Peter.

Spokesperson Robert Hendrie said: "We were delighted to have the Mayor of Maldon Town and members of the Maldon District Council attend, but were surprised and honoured that the MP for Maldon, Sir John Whittingdale, came to support the event."

Members of the public toured the Hall and learned about the history of the building.

Overall, the event raised £700 for Macmillan Cancer Support, with more donations still being received.
