There were Christmas jumpers aplenty as the Carpenter's Arms played host to Maldon Man Cave's (MMC) Christmas meet last weekend.

The men's social group ended its fourth year on a high with the well-attended event where good times were had by all.

Following the success of their 'Cheesy Tuesdays', the Gate Street watering hole emphatically rose to the challenge to cater for the gaggle of hungry men, and provided a buffet fit for kings.

Founded by Ross Holland in 2018, MMC's one simple goal was to reduce male social isolation in the area.

Ross said: "Being a stranger within your own community can be a lonely place and can affect your mental health. Just because you may have a busy family life doesn't mean you can't feel alone - in fact, that's quite common.

"At MMC we understand the power of friends. Friends to share a joke with, friends to go to the rugby, friends to help you move that heavy shed, or friends just to help offload the stresses of life."

The art of conversation in full effect.

"MMC aren't affiliated with any organisation, we're not funded, and we're not trained. We're just 'blokes doing bloke stuff', helping each other out, and having fun along the way.

"Not even a pandemic could stop us as we met regularly via Zoom, which proved great way to keep in touch. The conversations, the camaraderie, and the long-lasting friendships people have made, make the simple concept of MMC so rewarding to see."

"We'd like to thank Ellie and her fantastic team, and we really appreciate the time and effort they put into the event. The 'Carps' has always been our 'spiritual home', and we're always greeted with a warm welcome".

Maldon Man Cave meets every second Thursday of the month in the Carpenters Arms from 8pm.

Ross added: "It's purely a social group, so feel free to join - just turn up."
