Maldon police appeal for witnesses after thieves break into a boat moored on the canal

MALDON police have appealed for witnesses or information after a break-in on a boat.

Thieves stole a number of items from the boat, which was moored on the canal off Hall Bridge Rise, in Maldon, overnight between Thursday, 1 July and Friday, 2 July.

The break-in was discovered the following morning when the boat was spotted drifting on the canal, the bow rope having been loosened.

The thieves smashed a door during the break-in.

A police spokesperson said: "A number of suspects got into the boat through the cockpit.

"During a search a number of items, including a Summit stove, were taken.

"No arrests have been made and our enquiries are ongoing."
