Maldon: Essex Police begins Summer patrols along the coast in aim to combat bad behaviour

Essex's Police's marine officers have begun their regular spring and summer patrols to tackle and deter anti-social behaviour along the Essex coastline.
Operation Wave-Breaker was launched in 2021 by the force's Marine Unit in response to anti-social behaviour caused by personal watercraft.
Since the patrols started, reported incidents have dropped by two-thirds, from 99 in 2020 to 33 in 2024.
Key locations for officers, along the shoreline and on the water, include Point Clear on the River Colne, West Mersea and Steeple Bay on the River Blackwater and Southend sea front.

Over the past fortnight, officers and volunteer special constables have patrolled in several coastal locations, including Bradwell, Maldon, Steeple Bay, Fambridge and South Woodham Ferrers.
Sergeant Alex Southgate says: "The key is our visibility within the county's marine community.
"Through engagement, education and, when necessary, enforcement, we have sent out a clear message that we won't tolerate people putting the safety of others at risk in and around our coastline.
"If you're heading out on the water this Easter weekend or, indeed at any time, plan ahead.

"Find out about the local byelaws and speed restrictions, wear the correct safety gear, check the tides and weather forecast, ensure you have a way of contacting someone on the land and make sure you know what to do in an emergency," advises Alex.
"Together, we can ensure everyone has a safe and enjoyable spring and summer."
The Essex Police Marine Unit polices the 360-mile Essex coastline, from the River Thames at Crayford Ness to the River Stour at Manningtree.
