Maldon Town Council to support VE Day celebrations with grants to local groups
Maldon Town Council have invited local organisations to apply for grants towards celebrating the 80th anniversary of VE Day.
The small grants, ranging from £50 to £200, aim to support local community groups in organising events, projects and activities to honour the historical significance of the anniversary.
Eligible organisations include community groups, schools, charities, and other not-for-profit groups based in Maldon.
Grant applications will be evaluated based on their benefit to Maldon Town residents, their community impact, and alignment with the spirit of VE Day.
VE Day marks the end of the war in Europe and WWII as a whole. Taking place on May 8, 1945, 80-years-ago, the day holds a special place in British history.
The Town Council encourages local organisations to apply for these small grants to create meaningful events that educate and inspire residents, particularly young people, about the sacrifices made during this pivotal period.
Maldon Town Mayor, Cllr Andrew Lay, said: "The VE Day 80 grant scheme allows us to contribute towards the community celebrations in the town.
"We have a great vibrant community here and I am looking forward to the many different celebrations of this historic day in our town, whilst remembering the sacrifice of the many in achieving peace in Europe."
The council have released key guidelines for grant eligibility:
• The project should be clearly related to celebrating VE Day 80.
• The project must be undertaken within the Town Boundary. Organisations based in Maldon will receive priority over regional or national bodies.
• Grant amounts range from £50 to £200.
• Applications must be submitted by 10th March 2025.
