A new weather warning covering Maldon district has been issues by the Met Office for very windy weather from 3pm on Boxing Day until midday on Sunday, 27 December.

Gusts of up to 60 to 70mph are expected across a large area of southern England. This warning is in addition to the weather warning currently in place until 6am tomorrow (Christmas Eve) for heavy rainfall.

The new yellow warning states: "Inland gusts of 50 to 60 mph are likely, with the potential for 60 to 70 mph in some locations.

"Hills and coasts exposed to the southwesterly winds could see gusts of 70 to 80 mph. In addition to the strong winds, a period of heavy, squally rain will affect western and southern areas. Combined with strong winds, the rain will lead to some hazardous travelling conditions."
