Plans for a new children's swimming pool have been submitted to Maldon District Council for approval.

The swimming pool planning application, which consists of a proposed change of use from a B8 warehouse, is set to be an educational facility for children's swimming lessons.

The site will be at Unit F Riverside Industrial Estate, Mill Lane, and will include a 9.0m x 4.5m swimming pool, gender specific changing facilities, a WC, a reception area and a plant room.

The plans state that the pool will be 1.3m deep, and is set to hold a mixture of lessons run by qualified teachers and local independent swim schools.

There will be a capacity maximum of 12 children per/hr plus two staff. With operating hours planned to be, Monday – Friday 8.30 - 20.30, Saturday 8.30 – 18.30, Sunday 9.00 – 17.00.

The building is along Mill Lane, and has a small car park with space for 13 vehicles.

A spokesperson for GBP Architects states in the rationale for the proposal: "The driving force behind this proposal is to create a versatile and all-season facility that caters to the needs of a children's swimming learning centre. By transitioning from the B8 classification to sui generis, we aim to provide a suitable and secure environment for children's swimming lessons throughout the year.

"The centre is designed to enhance the local community's access to educational and recreational facilities."

The plans were submitted by GBP Architects November 16, and are pending consideration by Maldon District Council.
