On the eve of Cop26, the global climate change conference, a village in Maldon is setting out on its own low carbon journey.

A new community initiative, the Tollesbury Climate Partnership, is holding its first open day today (Saturday 30 October) from 11am to 3pm at the Parish Rooms on Elysian Gardens in the village.

The group aims to reduce the impact of climate change and protect the local environment.

A spokesperson for the group said: "Residents are invited to join the group and share their ideas for local climate-focussed projects.

"Ideas already being discussed include home energy saving and promoting low carbon energy, encouraging cycling and reducing car use and protecting the environment through tree planting, water saving and restoring threatened marine life."

The open day is packed with fun family-friendly activities to teach attendees how to help reduce the impact of climate change and protect Tollesbury.

There is a quiz on marine species, a doll's house demonstrating insulation, information on how to convert your bike to electric and water-saving tips.

Visitors will also be able to explore local marine life and can swap seeds to grow their own plants.
