Plume Academy has entered a huge student and staff team into the upcoming Maldon Mud Race.

The 13 person team will be made up of teachers and Year 12 PE students, who will trudge their way across 400 metres of the River Blackwater for Bowel Cancer UK.

They will join hundreds of other participants who will be getting muddy for their chosen charities on May 4 at Promenade Park.

Maldon Mud Race Chairman Brian Farrington said: "We have always worked closely with Plume Academy, and we are grateful they have again mustered such a large team.

"We are delighted that Plume students have also elected to participate in this epic race. We know how hard all the staff and indeed students work and to give up their precious Sundays is very kind.

"A team of this size will undoubtedly raise a generous amount for local charities."

Plume Community Academy will be donating 50/50 to Maldon Mud Race and their chosen charity, Bowel Cancer UK. The team have already raised over £1,200.

Joint Head of Academy, Mrs Ruth Clark, who will once again be participating in the race, said, "Plume is Maldon's Community Academy and sole provider of secondary education in Maldon. Within that remit we support both our community and local charities.

"As a huge date in the local community calendar, we wanted to support The Maldon Mud Race once again and we are all excited to enter this challenging race.

"We know it will be a memorable experience for the whole team and will do our utmost to raise additional funds for the charities."

Mrs Clark continued, "I am quite sure that members of our Plume Family will be out in force to cheer on our staff as they become mud runners for the day."

Last year, 'Team Plume' teacher Peter Carlsson won the race with a time of 3 minutes and 36 seconds.

Lewis Wilson, one of the college students taking part in the race said: "We are all looking forward to the start line of the epic Maldon Mud Race, but what's truly amazing isn't just the race itself- it's what it represents.

"This race isn't just about endurance strength or the thrill of the challenge. It's about community. It's about showing up standing together and pushing through the obstacles not just for us but for something greater than us."

Another student, Hannah Blackburn, said: "Taking part in the Maldon Mud Race is more than just a personal challenge, it's a commitment to raising awareness and funds for Bowel Cancer UK, showing that as a community we can make a difference! "

This is the first time students from the school have joined 'Team Plume' at the annual race.

Joint Head of Academy, Tom Baster said "We would like to take this opportunity to thank D'LUX Aesthetic and Spa, a local Maldon High Street business, who have very kindly provided the Plume Academy T-Shirts that all staff will be wearing during the race.

"We would also like to thank Beardwell Construction Ltd, who are building the new classrooms at the Mill Road Campus for their support and donation. We are always extremely grateful for the support of our local businesses who are also members of our Plume Family".
