Essex Police placed a dispersal order across Mayland this weekend in aim to prevent a rumoured unlicensed music event.

The event was to take place in the Grange Avenue area, with around 300 people possibly attending.

The dispersal order was in place from Saturday, November 2 at 4pm until the same time on Monday, November 4.

It covered the entirety of Mayland and extended beyond Green Lane to the south, to Loftman's and Little Ashtree Farms in the east, Tideway and Greenlane Farms in the west, and up to the Imperial Avenue area of Maylandsea in the north.

The Facebook post announcing the order was met with criticism by some residents, with others jokingly asking for an invite to the event.

Acting Inspector Matt Dalby maintained the importance of such orders, saying: "There isn't permission for this event and as such the proper safety arrangements are not in place.

"We know from experience that unlicensed music events can be the cause of anti-social behaviour, disrupting nearby residents because of the noise and number of people attending.

"This dispersal order gives us the power to direct people to leave the area or face arrest.

"We will always use the tools available to us to keep people safe and protect them from crime, disorder, and anti-social behaviour."
