Twelve planning applications in the Maldon District: Burnham Waters changes, Smugglers Cove permission, and proposed swimming pool

Read this week's roundup of the key planning applications in the Maldon District, received or decided on by the council.

Applications received

  • Nine retirement bungalows, Tillingham

Application to erect nine retirement bungalows with all matters reserved on land rear of Acora South Street, Bradwell-On-Sea.

  • Change of use from warehouse to swimming pool, Maldon North

Application for change of use from class B8 warehouse to swimming pool for children tuition at Howden Joinery Properties, Riverside Industrial Estate.

  • Burnham Waters development change, Burnham 

Application to amend description of development to remove '70 bedroom two-storey care home building', correct '55 bedroom two-storey assisted living apartment building' to '55 unit two-storey assisted living apartment building' and remove 'including affordable housing'. Land North West of 2 Maldon Road, Burnham-On-Crouch.

  • Construction of MOT bay and customer parking, Maldon West

Application to propose construction of Class 7 commercial vehicle MOT bay and customer parking at G B Jones and Smith Engineering Unit 12H, West Station Yard Spital Road.

Applications approved

  • Three Glamping Pods for golf club guests, Great Totham

Approved erection of three glamping pods for overnight accommodation for Workshop Forrester Park Golf and Tennis club guests, Beckingham Road Great Totham.

  • Change of use from art shop to a drinking establishment and tattooist, Maldon High Street

Approved change of use from art gallery shop to a mixed-use drinking establishment for the sale of alcohol (ground floor) and tattooist (first floor), Smugglers Cove 17 High Street Maldon.

  • Salero Lounge signage application, Maldon High Street

One application for advertisement consent for one externally illuminated fascia sign, one externally illuminated hanging sign, one internally illuminated menu board and lighting. 

One listed building consent application for signage installation, changes to external materials including repainting or doors and windows, and glazing alterations.

  • Private equestrian land and the erection of 4 stables, Stow Maries

Application for change of use of land to private equestrian use and the erection of 4 stables, hay store, wash down bay, tack/feed room and machinery barn. Land at Old Wheatsheaf, The Street Stow Maries.

Applications refused

  • Single storey front extension, Wickham Bishops

Application for single storey front extension with rooms in roof. First food side extension including extension to existing roof line, new porch design and canopy to front, with changes to fenestration. Refused due to its location, scale and mass design being considered to cause detrimental harm to the character and appearance of existing dwelling and surrounding area. Carr House, Carters Lane Wickham Bishops.

  • Erection of two dwellings, Mundon

Outlined planning application for the erection of up to two dwellings on Land North of Willow Grove, Maldon Road Mundon. Refused due to distance from a defined Settlement Boundary, meaning future occupants would be heavily reliant on a car to gain access to everyday services and facilities. 

  • Double garage, Mayland

Proposed double garage, front wall and gate and fencing to side boundaries. Refused due to its size, location and roof design, which would be an incongruous addition to the site and the surrounding area. Imperial Avenue, Mayland.

  • Sycamore reduction, Heybridge West

Application for T4- Sycamore- Reduce canopy by six metres to allow one metre clearance from telephone wire, and T5- Sycamore- Reduce canopy by six metres to allow one metre clearance from telephone wire. Refused due to proposed works being considered excessive and may result in a negative impact upon the health of the affected trees. Chelmer Lane, Heybridge.
