A free community festival will be held at Maldon's Promenade Park this Friday (August 18), a fortnight after being postponed due to thunderstorms.

Organised by Maldon District Council, UFest is a free all-day community festival which aims to bring local people together "to celebrate everything that makes life worth living". From 11am to 4pm, the festival will feature a range of family activities.

Councillor Richard Siddall, Leader of Maldon District Council said: "I am really pleased that UFest is returning to Maldon Promenade Park again for 2023. The festival received lots of positive feedback last year, and the team behind UFest have planned an even bigger and better festival this year.

"With the Cost of Living on many people's minds, events like UFest will help residents find some of the support they might need. It will also provide an opportunity to enjoy themselves and try something new."

Activities will focus on on health, wellbeing and fun, with live music, stalls, and events for the whole community. There will be music and bands, a selection of games, sports, and more to get involved with throughout the day.

Festival goers will have a chance to get active, learn new skills, and maybe even find a new hobby.

UFest is free to enter and open to all members of the family. It is funded by the National Lottery, Magnox and Livewell.

Last year, the event welcomed the Queen's Baton Relay on its way to the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham.
