UP CLOSE IN MALDON: Town centre independents share their feelings on news that the journey out of lockdown has started
Maldon Nub News aims to be supportive to EVERY element of the community from business and shops to people and charities and clubs and sports organisations.
Each Saturday we've been running a new series of UP CLOSE IN MALDON features as the community looks forward to better times to come.
This week - and following PM Boris Johnson's unveiling of the roadmap out of lockdown, we speak to some of Maldon town centre's fabulous independent shops on how they feel about the news that a new normal is at last on the horizon.
Chair of Maldon Business Board and owner of Willow & Fox in Quest Place, Allison Gray is a familiar face around town.
Speaking to Maldon Nub News this week, Allison shares her hopes for the future, with non-essential retail due to re-open on 12 April.
Allison says: "The last 12 months have been trying times for our High Street but it's a relief to now see light at the end of the tunnel. Sadly, we've seen big chains collapse but I'm hopeful that our fabulous community of independents will bounce back.
"The public have been fantastic supporting us through lockdown with online purchases via our website and we now look forward to welcoming them back in person through our door. We will all continue to take the necessary precautions to keep our customers safe & we hope people will feel comfortable returning to the High Street to support us all."
Just the thing:"It is a huge relief to be able to open the doors once more. We have worked hard to try to keep the shop name and products on people's minds during this lockdown.
"We have all our products available online, however the lack of sales is really tough on the business. We feel it is a lot safer at the moment and look forward to welcoming everybody back." Louise Harrison
Silo:
"The high street hasn't been the same without the hustle and bustle of our thriving community. It's been a lonely place without all the unique businesses which make Maldon so special. We are looking forward to welcoming everyone back." Lucie Walker-Hutt Bridal Reloved:"We can't wait to open our doors again to brides-to-be and to hear those lovely comments from the public about our shop window as they go past.
"It has been a long lockdown this time and we miss the amazing community that is Maldon High Street. Thank goodness the end is in sight!"
Sharyn Warner The Bra Consultancy:"We are really looking forward to welcoming all of our lovely customers back into our boutique.
"We have really missed seeing each and every one of you, and we can't wait to see our unique high street full of amazing independent businesses back and bustling once more!" Julie Blanche
The Card Company:
"We're really looking forward to welcoming all our customers back into our store, being an independent family business this lockdown has been very tough on us all, but the future is bright and we look forward to seeing a bustling high street once again." Ricky Jackson Sophie's Kitchen:"We are really looking forward to seeing our wonderful customers again. I personally have really missed everyone and it has been a lonely time and seeing the high street busy again will be amazing." Sophie Spink
Chic Petite:
"We are excited to have everyone coming back into our store again soon. "We want to assure customers that we will continue to follow government guidelines to keep us all safe. To thank you all for your support we will be having an up to 80 per cent off sale in store only! See you all soon."Lisa Muskett
