Fire crews remain at the scene this morning

FIREFIGHTERS have created a fire break to protect unaffected animal feed from catching fire at the ongoing stack blaze in Hall Road, Asheldham - and are making good progress.

Crews have been using water from a nearby lake and are using one of Essex Fire and Rescue Service's water bowsers - a vehicle that can carry large amounts of water - to get more supplies to the scene, due to its remote nature.

The fire is being fought in sections to help prevent spread to other buildings and crews will work with staff at the site throughout today (Thursday, 24 June) to continue moving unaffected stock from the building where the fire took hold.

Six fire crews continued to tackle the blaze throughout the night.

A spokesperson for the fire service said: "This will be a protracted incident and crews are working with on-site teams to resolve it as quickly and safely as possible."
