Thursday 26 October

Halloween at the Museum of Power, Langford (until Sunday 29 October)

The Museum of Power in Langford is hosting a variety of Halloween activities from Wednesday 25 to Sunday 29 October.

Activities on offer every day include:

  • Bug Hunt - join Essex Wildlife to find the bugs and creepy crawlies in our grounds.
  • Autumn Arts and Crafts - have fun painting, hiding and finding rocks around the Museum grounds.
  • Exciting engineering - can you build the strongest bridge or tallest newspaper tower? A prize will be given for the strongest bridge and the tallest tower.

On Thursday 26 October, Professor Dean the Steampunk Scientist and Magician will visit, along with the Royal Society of Chemists and 'Let's Get Crafty' walk-in activities.

Free 'Write Night' event at Maldon Books - from 6.30pm to 8.30pm

Enjoy a special evening at Maldon Books on October 26, from 6.30pm to 8.30pm.

The 'Write Night' event is free to attend. If you've got a work in progress, a project or a piece of coursework that you would like to give your attention to for a couple of hours, then we'd love for you to join us at our bookshop for a comfortable evening of writing! We'll be opening our bookshop on Thursday 26 October for a one-off Write Night, where you can spend time working on a piece of writing at your leisure in a comfortable space, surrounded by books!

We'll have seating available, and we'll also have drinks and refreshments on offer too. Whether it's a little peace and quiet you need, or writing in a group setting, we hope you'll find our bookshop a comfortable retreat to get those words out of your head and onto the page!

This is completely free to come along to, though we do ask that you let us know you're coming, so we know how many people will be joining us. You are welcome to work on paper or on your laptop, and we'll have plug sockets available for you to use. Let us know via email, or pop in to the shop at your convenience.

Witham Amateur Operatic Society brings Gershwin's all-singing, all-dancing Broadway classic to a local stage from Monday 23 to Saturday 28 October.

Coming to Witham Public Hall in October 2023, WAOS' next show is a classic. Crazy For You is an all singing, all dancing 1930's Broadway musical.

It follows the story of Bobby Child, a theatre-mad performer. He is torn between leading a life in theatre or running the family bank. Bobby, following the orders of his mother, heads to Deadrock Nevada where he meets Polly Baker, who he falls madly in love with. To win her affections, Bobby decides to save the town's theatre by putting on a show to bring in enough money to buy it back.

Performances nightly at 7.30pm, Saturday matinee 2.30pm. Doors open 30 minutes before curtain up. No admission before 2pm or 7pm.

Halloween at The Museum in the Park - from 1pm to 4pm (until Sunday 29 October)

Maldon Museum is providing half-term entertainment with a spooky vibe over the weekend.

Halloween-themed activities include a new children's search guide throughout the Museum and Halloween themed arts and crafts.

The museum will be open on Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 1pm to 4pm. Arts and crafts activities will conclude at 3.30pm. Entry to the Museum and activities is free.

Halloween Fun Day at The Muddy Duck, Maldon - from 12 noon to 4pm

The Muddy Duck at Fullbridge, Maldon, will host a free Halloween Fun Day for children on Friday (October 27).

Children are encouraged to come along in costume to enjoy a range of free games.

Astaria Candlelight Illuminations at the Museum of Power, Langford - from 6pm to 8pm

A magical evening will be held at the Astaria Model Village in the grounds of the Museum of Power, Langford, in October.

On Friday 27 October, enjoy candle-lit illuminations, with free entry to both the museum and the model village. It will be open from 6pm until 8pm.

Children and adults can explore Astaria with over 400 candle-lit lanterns, plus fairies and elves.

The Steam Pump Café will be open for refreshments.

The Miniature Railway will also run from 6pm until 8pm. Adult tickets cost £2, child (3-15) £1, and child aged two and under ride for free.

Saturday 28 October

Cabaret Night at Maldon Little Ship Club - from 7pm

Guest singer Asha-Louise is set to dazzle guests at Maldon's Little Ship Club this Saturday (October 28).

The "glamorous and sophisticated" evening will begin at 7.30pm, with doors opening at 7pm.

Tickets for members cost £10, while non-members pay £12. Pizza and nibbles are included in the ticket price.
