A popular radio station based in the Maldon District is set to rebrand as it seeks to expand its coverage.

Chelmer Radio will change its name to Breeze Love Songs in a shakeup at the Wickham-Bishops based station.

Founded by local DJ David Baker, the station has been broadcasting since 2018 and has made the latest change as part of its growth plan.

David told Nub News: "Chelmer Radio over the years has served, and will continue to serve, our areas in mid-Essex. But rebranding it means we can now look to expand our areas and coverage too.

"The station's popularity is huge, and we still plan to do plenty of local events and outside broadcasts.

David kicked off his radio career in Ireland in 1980, but his first big break in England came from a station called Breeze AM, part of the Essex Radio Group, in 1989.

He added: "I had a nine-year stint there before moving onto pastures new - but they couldn't keep me away and I returned to what was Classic Gold Breeze in 2002.

"Our mix of love songs is unrivalled and the station name will be recognised by many who used to listen it during the 90s and the 00's."

The finishing touches are being put to the Breeze Love Songs website, which is set to go live soon.

Chelmer Radio's iOS and Android app will also be rebranding, and will be available on the App Store as 'Breeze Love Songs'. The thousands of listeners who already have the current app installed will receive an automatic update shortly.
