Plans for a 275-home development near Maldon Cemetery have yet to be submitted to the council, however residents have raised concerns over the potential impact on wildlife and traffic throughout the town.

One resident plans to be buried in the cemetery, so is calling on developers to consider the effects of the proposed neighbourhood...

My name is Lois Wilmot. My late husband and I moved to Maldon in 1986.

Many friends and relatives have been laid to rest in the wildlife area at Maldon Cemetery. Each time I have attended a funeral there, I was so impressed by the atmosphere of peace and beauty – the maturing trees, wildflowers, butterflies and birds – that I have purchased a burial plot for myself!

Should this development go ahead, the road will have to be altered to accommodate the increased traffic. There will be light pollution, horrendous noise from the construction workers, delivery vehicles, refuse lorries, cars, plus all the noise from so many people. No wildlife will stay.

Please consider how serious the impact will be on us all.

Thank you.

Lois Wilmot, Heybridge resident

On Wednesday, around 200 Maldon residents attended a meeting at the Town Hall, to discuss their objections to the 'Maldon Woods' proposals.
