There were contrasting fortunes for Maldon & Tiptree and Heybridge Swifts in this evening's (Tuesday, 13 September) FA Trophy ties.

Swifts travelled to Beckenham Town and the match finished 1-1 after extra time.

Leyton Orient loanee Harrison Sodje had put the visitors ahead on 38 minutes but Louie Theophanous equalised just after the hour.

That was the end of the scoring in normal time, extra time couldn't separate the sides so it went to a penalty shoot-out which Swifts won 4-1 to set up a next round tie against Chipstead from the Isthmian League South Central Division, who beat Waltham Abbey 4-2.

However, there were few smiles for home fans at the Wallace Binder Stadium where the Jammers went down 3-0 to Ware.

Renee Howe opened the scoring for the visitors on 15 minutes and Liam Dulson made it two just before half time.

Hopes of a Maldon comeback nosedived when Lance Atkins picked up a second yellow and was dismissed six minutes after the break.

The ten men were then given a hopeless task when Rechan Espirit made it three for Ware on 54 minutes and the match, like the weather, drizzled out!
