Lowestoft Town 2, Maldon and Tiptree 1
JAMMERS remain rooted to the foot of the Isthmian North table after a defeat at the seaside today (Saturday, 27 August) but things might have been different had they taken advantage of the game's opening period, when they started so well.
On ten minutes Bradley Ihionvien put over a pass for Harvey Sayer to fire in a shot to the near post, well saved by Lowestoft keeper Warren Burwood.
The Jammers continued to push forward but, totally against run of play on 25 minutes, a cross from the left led to a tap in at the far post for striker Jake Reed.
Maldon continued with some good approach play and on 28 minutes Ihionvien caught the goalie off his line from 35 yards only to hit the bar.
Within minutes Harvey Sayer crossed from the left for Johnville Renee to head over from close range.
On 40 minutes Maldon got what they deserved when Renee drove into the box only to be fouled from behind, Ihionvien converting the spot kick.
Maldon created one more good chance before the break but the half ended level.
The second half was a duller affair with both teams struggling to threaten the opposition goal.
The only second half goal came after 58 minutes when the ball broke to a totally unmarked Chris Henderson on the edge of the box.
He cooly slotted home in the corner to the keepers left to put Lowestoft ahead 2-1.
The game fizzled out and Maldon were left to rue missed first half chances.
Thoughts now turn to Bank Holiday Monday when Maldon host local rivals Heybridge Swifts where all fans are reminded there is a charity food bank collection for Maldon Pantry.
