A-Level students leaving Burnham's Ormiston Rivers Academy are looking forward to a wide range of next steps, with many heading to leading universities and apprenticeships.

Upon receiving their A-Level results last month, sixth form students were found to have performed well across the board.

Joanne Williams, Principal at Ormiston Rivers Academy, told Nub News: "We are so incredibly proud of all our students for their fantastic achievements. They are such a close-knit group, and it has been so inspiring to see them support each other over the past two years. As an academy, our priority is to work closely with each student to provide them with the skills and knowledge they need to unlock their full potential and I am so pleased to see such a large number of our students achieving their goals."

Examples of the exciting futures ahead of the hard working students include:

  • Bailey Woodford has successfully secured a place at the University of Surrey to study Veterinary Science having held a long-term aspiration to work with animals. During his time at the academy, Bailey had been attending extra chemistry lessons, as well as working closely with academy staff to prepare for his early entry UCAS application. This included support with his personal statement, interview practice using community links with local vets, and support with work experience.
  • Cerys Cook is heading to study Acting at St Mary's University. She has been perfecting her performance skills through her starring role in a number of school plays and has been working closely with teaching staff to fine-tune her audition pieces.
  • Jemma Green has secured a highly sought after place on a Degree apprenticeship with Lloyds TSB. This followed a work experience placement at Lloyds TSB, which was made possible due to established academy connections. Her role in the Sixth Form leadership team also supported the application.
  • Liam and Reece Stuttle have both secured places at Loughborough University to study Automotive engineering. The boys joined Ormiston Rivers Academy's Sixth Form from an external school and were keen to throw themselves into a number of extracurricular activities, including a band.
  • Imogen Garrett is looking forward to going on to study Zoology at Bristol University. Imogen had been a keen learner during her time at the academy, having been a regular attendee at morning intervention sessions. She was always happy to be involved in the leadership opportunities on offer, developing a number of important transferable skills.
  • Rae Laville-Farrant is off to study Dance at a specialist Dance college. She took part in Elite dance through school and took on the role as Dance Captain, leading school shows and teaching lower school students.

An Ormiston spokesperson told Nub News the Academy is committed to providing bespoke opportunities and support around each student's aspirations. They offer an Ormiston Academy Trust-wide Oxbridge scheme, to aid students wishing to get into top universities. In May, two Sixth Form students were awarded a place on a prestigious Oxbridge scholars programme.

The Academy also has dedicated careers staff who offer advice, organise careers fairs and talks, and oversee work experience opportunities for Years 10 and 12 students.
